A child star of the Oscar-winning movie "Slumdog Millionaire" moved into his new home in an upmarket Mumbai suburb Saturday, a far cry from his family's former dwelling -- a shanty.

you gotta be kidding? This is all this child got from this hit movie? whats wrong with this picture?? Hey BRAD PITT Do something. Geeez.
I can't believe the knee-jerk responses and opinions in regard to this story. Yo, wilson 6945, where in the story did it say this is 'all this child got from this hit movie?' His money is being protected for him while he grows up and goes to school. He will begin to have access to his money when he is of age. And who that has seen the movie would claim that it 'romanticizes poverty'. Ye gods!
You're right me-554106. I read that the makers of Slumdog have trust funds set of for the young stars of the film and they are also paying for their education.
Who gives a @!$%# if he moves into a new house or not. I would hate to think journalism has moved to this low reporting on such non-sense.
Let me guess: You're white, middle-class, conservative and an a-hole. Right? Do I win a prize?
Sure sounds like a "racist" remark there Randy. Does this mean you're a black, low-class, liberal?
How touching that he is so thankful for a 250 sq.foot house. Most of our apartments are larger!!! Also, isn't that the size of most of our rec rooms? We are SO spoiled!!! And IF there are trust funds set up for those children who were in the movie...that's great. Compare that to the millions and millions the "stars" earn for a movie. Those children ARE who made the movie so incredible...they deserve at LEAST a 250 sq. ft. home and, I hope, a very HEALTHY trust fund.
And I thought housing was overpriced in the US. The Jai Ho Trust, named after the film's award-winning track and set up by the producers, bought the $42,000 home on Ismail's behalf and will give it to him when he turns 18. That's $168 per square foot
The movie has made over $350million... you would think the producer, director, studio could afford more than $100k for the poor people who participated in it.. .maybe a school or a not so fancy apartment building or something... but as Lily Tomlin said, even if you win the rat race, you're still a rat.
Greed, exploitation is universal, knows no boundaries or culture.........
Where is Jay Lo and Madonna? This child needs to be adopted by one of you, come on do it now you bums. Another kid won't hurt you.
I don't think that the backers of this film had a clue that it would hit the big time the way it has. They hired these children for a song, proceeded to exploit them, then sent them back to their proverty stricken communities hoping all would be forgotten. I think these so called trust funds were set up after the fact, once the film won all the awards and the media uncovered the exploitation. Hopefully these children will be treated like any other child stars and the money will be set aside for them for their future.
After watching this film, and reading "White Tiger", I would never set foot in India.
He has to wait until he's 21? i find it appalling that it took this long for him to get decent housing, especially with the sucess of the movie. i guess movies do imitate life,or was it the other way around?
